Bully Proof: About Our Program

Our program is designed for children ages 7-12. The basis for this program is the same as the adult program - to use the power of body language and voice to deter violence and aggression as a first line of defence and to empower students with the ability to physically defend themselves as a last resort.  Bullying is by far the most prevalent social problem for children. Although public schools are to be congratulated for recognizing and taking proactive steps toward this issue children are still forced to deal with bullying at school, in their neighborhood and sometimes even at home. That is why the Bully Proof workshop is essential to helping create a confident, empowered and happy child who know they have choices in how to deal with aggression.  In this class children will learn:

  • How to avoid being targeted
  • How to deal with teasing and harassment
  • How to set personal boundaries using body language and assertive communication
  • How to help others who are being victimized and avoid becoming a bystander
  • Some simple and appropriate self-defence techniques if they are forced to defend themselves from violence

  • Hello Brian,

My son Justin just took part in your bully proof course in Nanaimo and I didn't have the chance to thank you for putting on the course.   I am sure that like most parents that enrol their children in the course I was always being bullied in school and was never taught the skills to deal with it.   I was fortunate enough today to be able to watch your course for the last hour.   It was incredible the way that you interact with the children, I really liked the way that you explained the physical effects of fear on the body.   My wife was able to watch a few minutes of the class on monday and I share her sentiments that it was really hard as a parent to watch the scenarios that you were putting on, the thoughts that our child or any ones child may have to face that situation was very tough to watch.  I think now that this should be taken as compliment to the way you are teaching the class, as real of a situation as possible, good for you!
I would like to think that the more children taking this course the less bullying there will be as more children begin to stand up for themselves and others.

Once again, thank you so much,

    Brian and Christine Fairbrother
